Midweek Madness - Wiesenhof 26th January 2006

Strange how these things happen, I wasn't going to come on this outing, then a quick change and suddenly I am the one to meet everyone and bring them to the venue. While we were waiting, we saw Greg hurtle past on his way to meet the owner of Wiesenhof.

Unfortunately I had to turn somebody away as they had a dog in the car (a four legged furry one!). The destination was a game farm, and there are definitely no dogs allowed. (As an aside folks, We don't allow any animals on our outings). I received a call from Greg to ask me to collect everyone's money, and he confirmed the theory about the dog. Sorry you couldn't join us, but you are welcome the next time - just without the dog.

I barely got everyone's money, and then it was time to leave. We met Greg at the entrance to Wiesenhof, along with a few more members. Greg then led the way up on the trail. The turn around point was too small for all the vehicles and we had to do a bit of manouvering to get everyone in. There is a small tower where you get stunning views. The sunset was awesome! Pity the wind was a bit strong, and it chased us off the tower early. The drive down was nice and easy even though it got dark.

Greg led us to the dam where we were going to braai. Then out of the silence came a "Help! We're lost!" from the radios. What had happened, the convoy had split up and people did not wait for the vehicle behind them to see where to turn. As a result, the tail end of the convoy found themselves back at the main road. I went back to bring them through to the braai area, where everyone was enjoying themselves.

After a pleasant supper, people started packing up and heading home. We made a final check to ensure nothing had been left behind, that the braai fires were dead and there was no litter. Then it was off home for us as well.

Looking at the photo's it looked like everyone enjoyed themselves - hey even I smiled!
