Biking Interest Group - 5th to 6th August 2006
The Biking Interest Group has just returned from a great weekend travelling via all the
backroads to Elands Bay and back
There were 11 bikes in all and after a very cold ride to the rendevoux point in Malmsbury
we took to the backroads and braved the mud to reach our first stop (for breakfast). The found
a "rural" restaurant in Mooreesburg and had a great breakfast and then routed via Hopefield to
Veldrif.
With the variety of bikes (all offroad bikes) but varying from 175cc to 750cc we cruised on
the tar sections at 110kph and then when we reached the muddy roads we averaged about 70kph.
The next intersection took us to Aurora with us finally joining the tar road outside Elands
Bay. Although the weather looked good we had booked the hotel so we did not have to rough it too
much. We grabbed some sundowners and rode to a cave those walls are decorated with bushmen
paintings and enjoyed sundowners while we watch the sun melt into the ocean. After a dinner
the riders were tired and most of us were in bed before midnight.
After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday we took the coast road and worked our way South to
Veldrif. We found a restaurant on the beach with some live music, had a light lunch and then
continued via other gravel roads to Hopefield and Mooreesburg. After a quick refuel we retraced
our steps to Malmsbury where we said our goodbye's and went home.
There will definitely be more of these trips.
