   Club News - July 2007

Dear Members

The school holidays have begun and our group of adventurers is in Botswana on the much anticipated club trip. The 15 passes trip happened last weekend and was a great success, the June social was a great success. Jorgen and Sonja have returned from their trip to Cameroon, Hannes and Natasha are back from Angola and Clive and Linda are on a private trip to Botswana. So there is no grass growing under our feet.

I suppose these Club News emails are an opportunity for me to get philosophical and dream about the club. The more I look at the club and it's members the more I believe we have the correct recipe and have gone in the right direction. On the 15 Passes trip Eric approached me (his first trip with the club) and commented on how different we are compared to other clubs and groups that he has driven with. The fact that everyone behaves in an exemplary way and more important is the fact that we do not have to be inebriated to enjoy ourselves. The diversity of activities inspired by the Interest Groups puts members in a position where they can meet people, drive their 4x4's, go to socials, take photographs, geocach, do some mountain biking, get involved in the new middle aged male craze of riding adventure motorbikes, riding quads, watch birds, etc. all under the umbrella of Offroad Adventure Club.

Winter is always a challenge with the weather being unpredictable we have tried to find some diverse and interesting things to keep you busy this winter. The July Midweek Madness will be at a few days notice to accomodate the fickle weather and in a complete opposite direction we will wait until it snows before we venture into the snow for our annual snow trip. We have put out our 'feelers' and have been contacting various landowners for permission to use their land for club outings and Midweek Madness outings and thereby we try and bring in some new and unusual destinations.

We want to start a new annual outing called 'Destination Unknown'. This will be a once a year trip where the destination is a surprise, the trip will depart on a Friday evening (after work) and return on a Sunday afternoon. Special T shirts will be made for the trip and a 'Destination Unknown' Certificate will be issued to participants.

Just remember the days are getting longer again so start planning your adventures.

Greg.
