Picnic - 22nd July 2007
Sunday morning started with the sun's rays creeping across the ground, clear sky and no mist.
I dashed off to the shops for fresh croisants and made it to the Rose Garden in Durban Rd
on time. The crowd had grown and we now had 26 vehicles that had decided to join us for the
picnic breakfast, some technical driving (Bruce and I each took a group) and then a relaxed
braai under the trees on a friends farm outside Durbanville.
Bruce guided the group to the picnic spot, making sure that each vehicle got a bit of mud
splatter. hey!! you have to look the part.
The smell of bacon and eggs soon permeated the air and amongst lots of chatter new
friendships were made. We split the group in two and it was now down to the serious stuff..playing
in the river.
We zigg zagged the river course, entering it from each side, different angles, side slopes,
some water and a bit of mud, I lie...a lot of mud! Each vehicle had a go at each obstacle and
in some cases another try and another.. Confidence levels grew and soon there was little left
to conquer.
While Bruce's group wallowed for a bit longer we drove back to the picnic spot and soon
had the fires going.
Lots more conversation "did you see this", "hey I managed to get through the obstacle",
"my difflock really works"..
The conversation ebbed as the braais started producing their fare. At 4pm we started
packing up and heading home. Another awesome day with some fantastic people.
