Valentines Weekend - February 2009
This year we decided to do something more romantic than
usual and so the morning of the 14th saw the couples
(no kids - hey it's Valentines weekend) meet at the
Villa Via Hotel in Gordon's Bay for breakfast.
Each lady was given a red rose on arrival and soon everyone
was tucking into breakfast. The Villa Via Hotel is at
harbour Island and breakfast on the deck is always a
treat. We were soon on our way with the next port of
call being a farm stall.
After a quick toilet break at Riviersonderend, and a
quick repair to Ian and Veronica's tyre we were on our
way again. The sky was full of clouds and after we turned
onto the gravel road to Malgas the rain came down. After
settling the dust the rain stopped and we turned down
to the pont.
As there were seven vehicles we needed three relays
on the pont but by noon we were all across and on our
way to the Breede River Lodge.
Greg called when we were ten minutes away and on arrival
the champagne was served at the door.
After getting all the paper work done it was time to
eat again and we settled into the lounge for a casual
lunch and chat. The afternoon was free and since I had
got them up at 6.30am most of the romantics had an afternoon
snooze.
As the sun moved to the West everyone emerged onto their
decks and after tea some of us went fishing and some
just relaxed.
Dinner was served as a private function to our group
and the table was nicely decorated with more roses.
Sunday was more eating and after breakfast I had arranged
for the group to be taken to the sand bank to explore
and look for Pansy shells. At low tide the sand bank
is very big and only three Pansy shells were found.
I called for the boat and we were shuttled across to
the hotel again.
After a casual lunch we made our way back to Cape Town.
This Valentine's weekend will become an institution
in the club.
