Offroad Adventures Boland Meeting - February 2009 On Tuesday 24 February 09 we called together all 4x4 enthusiasts from the Boland area with the kind assistance of Dico 4x4 who made their shop available for our meeting. ± 70 members, friends and visitors attended. This being the International Year of Astronomy we were able to coax Willie Koorts (regular speaker and guest of Radio RSG) of the SAAO to tell us more. The project is huge and the intention is to make people and especially children everywhere aware of the creation and activity in the skies around us. We are definitely planning a dark sky evening and weekend and hopefully Willie will accompany us for some hands on stargazing advice Next Mike Copeland took us on a quick trip through Africa and some favourite spots like the Ngorongoro Crater actentuating the fact that "getting out there" need not cost an arm and a leg - also giving a lot of practical advice - so forget the hotels and lodges - we all have good tents and that is where the fun started is it not !!?? We closed our presentations with first a hilarious DVD of a sandboarding incident during our recent visit to the Namib and closed with a more serious look at this beautiful Desert - both DVD's courtesy of Koos Pieters from Paternoster.
