Scheppie Saus - March 2009
This was a great weekend. Most of us went through on Friday evening.
It was HOT.
We had a ball.
It was HOT.
The trail was good fun - just a bit dusty after the fires.
It was HOT.
Thank heavens for the rock pool - it was saved us from the heat.
It was HOT.
We came home via the back roads.
And from one of the club members......
As new members of the club we chose to do a trip to Scheppie Saus with Russell as our
first outing in 2009. Where you might ask? Somewhere between Piketberg and Redelinghuys
about two and a half hours from Cape Town. We met everyone on Friday afternoon and headed
through the town of Piketberg towards Elands bay and turned off on a gravel road ,about
28km before the town of Redelinghuys and headed back towards Cape Town. This gravel road
eventually lead us to the Scheppie Saus camp site. This camp is literally an oasis in the
middle of a fire ravaged valley. Green grass camp sites with trees for shade and a couple
of bungalows for those who would prefer not to camp This site even has a rock pool to cool
off in and as Russell has said It was hot and the pool was a life saver.
We tackled the trail on Saturday which consisted of two circular routes and completed
the one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Both routes are relatively easy with
a couple of sand and rock challenges .Just enough to get the blood flowing a little faster
but not enough to break your vehicle. Back at the camp the fire was lit and the
"GoatFather" Russell made us feel welcome. On Sunday we packed up slowly and took a
last swim before heading back towards Cape Town via all the back roads which eventually
joined up with the N7 at Koringberg. We had a great weekend and met a great bunch of people.
Regards
Laurence Green
