   Club News - August 2009

Dear Members

August started off briskly with the Bridgestone Night Challenge. The weather was perfect and after closing the entries at 26 vehicles we had an additional 14 vehicles apply to enter. The event started at Bridgestone in Montague Gardens and then moved to the Atlantis Dunes until closing time and then into the bush area behind the Atlantis Industrial complex where the teams had to navigate their way to various events and then finally, after a detour via Paarl to Wiesenhof. The competition was won by Elrico Koen with Peter Sherlock coming second. A special thank you to the club members who assisted as marshalls and time keepers.

I received a call two days ago from Andy Brown whose botswana convoy is working it's way through the Savuti. He says that the trip is going well and that the group are the best he has ever had. The water has subsided enough for them to get through with out too much trouble.

Frans's trip is back from Namibia and if the pics are anything to go by it was also a fantastic trip.

Our Serengeti trip, organised by Alan (Gauteng) was also a great success and Alan insists that this trip is one of those "have to do" trips. Pics to follow.

Then we had Russell's ladies outing to Biliton near Stellenbosh. After a leisurely drive up the mountain we had the opportunity to have muffins and coffee whilst looking at the view, then we tasted the estate's wines and some very nice chocolates. After a very informative lecture we got to taste some of their goodies in the form of a light lunch.

Our 4x4 Construction Networking outing was washed out and so me met at Mugg and Bean at Canal Walk with 5 new people joining us for the coffee and networking.

Our casual 4x4 drive on the 10th was cancelled after we woke to rain pouring down, After an hour of listening to the rain we decided to "rather drive the dunes without the rain.'

In the next few weeks we have our Midweek Madness outing, our casual flower trip up the West Coast and Philip's flower trip.

We are very priviledged to have Gary Bauer run our Hunting Interest Group. Plans will be put in place  and we will be ready for the 2010 hunting season. Gary and I have chatted many times and the initial demand is a good indication of the interest in hunting.

The Diving Interest Group and Boating Interest Group will commence summer outings soon.

Please promote the 4x4 Offroad Adventure Club to your friends.
Kind regards
Greg
