Club Picnic - January 2010 By Greg Wow the RSVP's kept coming and soon we had 160 people booked for the 2010 opening picnic. Yes, it is not a 4x4 event but we try and start every year with a fun day where old friendships can be rekindled, new friendships made and members can reminisce about old trips and chat about new ones. We chose the Helderberg Nature Reserve as this years venue and a very early group met Greg there to reserve a good spot under the trees. Philip met the members on the N1 and the group arrived in convoy. Although skeptical at the numbers we managed to find parking for 40 PLUS vehicles and soon groups spread out under the trees. With so many people it is impossible to spend time with everybody and we did however make a big effort to meet all our new members. Amongst lots of laughter lunch was consumed and soon it was time for the Bridgestone Tyre Draw. The men, and a few ladies congregated around the gazebo and as Gloria drew a number all waited with bated breath. The first draw was an unclaimed number and so a second draw was done and this time Andy Faber won four Bridgestone tyres (tread pattern of choice) for his Discovery. Congrats Andy. The kids played all day and loved seeing the tortoises and buck ...and fishing in the duck pond. It turned out to be a fantastic day.
