Midweek Madness - Burger Evening - January 2010
By Greg
Looking out over False Bay I thought that we had a non starter for the first Midweek Madness of
2010. The phone was ringing, questioning whether we would brave the elements. Charles called from
Cape Town International and asked a similar question, then called again to say that the Gordon's
bay mountain was clear and since we had ordered burger from our member and owner of Steers we were
going anyway.
We met at the N2 Engen, had a coffee while waiting and soon the group had arrived. 18h15 sharp,
we left 2 minutes late (thanks for reminding me Francois) we made our way to the Steenbras Dam pump
station. Hugo had called to say no one else was there and that we had the place to ourselves. Although
a bit chilly there was hardly any wind and soon all 40 of us had spread out along the wall.
Then for those who have never experienced bio diesel, Hannes arrived with the Steers burgers
(THANKS HANNES). Hannes owns two Steers restaurants, one in Waterstone Centre and one at the Strand
Pavillion and does an amazing deal for our burger evening BUT back to biodiesel. Hannes runs his
Cruiser on biodiesel made from Steers oil and this means that instead of diesel fumes you only smell
burgers and slap chips as he drives past (excellent marketing).
Burgers were handed out and soon after some paddlers disappeared to the east the lights started
to twinkle. The conversations continued until after 9pm when the last vehicle left.
Thanks for attending and thanks to Hannes for the burgers.
