Dune Driving Introduction - May 2010
By Greg
The day was another perfect day in Cape Town and after collecting the permits from Chris we
all met at the gate to the dunes.
Some of the members had driven in the dunes before and just wanted a bit more practice
and some of the members who attended had never been into the dunes before.
After a briefing and deflating of tyres, 1.2 bars is not deflated we entered the dunes. Tyres
at 0.6 bars and the vehicles were just floating along.
The group tried various descents, ascents...some accompanied by verbal utterances from the
passengers. The tasks got more difficult and within a few hours the group were driving
like "old hands". Various attempts with high range and low range, different gears until
everything was smooth.
The more experienced members joined us at lunch time for an afternoon braai and drive.
The day was a great success and uneventful.
