West Coast - December 2011 by Greg Van Der Reis Over the long weekend in December a group of club members loaded up their vehicles and trekked North for our annual West Coast camp out. We had decided to camp in one place rather than pack up and move every day and since we found a truely beautiful long beach with no one else for a few kilometers the scene was set for a great weekend. A number of us left on the 15th so that we could find a spot on what we anticipated to be a very busy weekend. Strangely enough the weekend was very quiet and we only saw a few vehicles travelling doen the road in the distance. We had a perfect spot with no wind and since each family had brought a bag of wood for each night we had a big fire every night. Alan and Gerhard usually ended up being the last people to leave the fire and were always the first up in the morning...we are on holiday chaps!! The fishing was not siccessful and after a number of attemots and no bites the rods were put away and they spent their time leaning againt the tents. The sea was warm and a number of us swam without wetsuits. Aimee even did some snorkeling and there were abundant fish and sea urchins in the numerous rock pools. Each day was better than the last with time to relax, read, chat and braai. The night time fires are always a huge success and it was decidely relaxed watching the flames and the horizon darkend. After three nights it was time to leave and we packed up and experienced the holiday exodus on the N7 as we returned home. Another great trip. Greg and Gloria
