Greg van der Reis, the founder of 4x4 Offroad Adventure Training, 4x4 Offroad Adventure Club, African Expedition Company, Internet magazine "4x4 News Brief", the only 4x4 Help Line in the Western Cape, the founder of the 4x4 Expo (1999, 2000,2001 & 2002), African Offroad Adventure Competition (2002, 2003 and 2004),4x4 Jamboree (2000 & 2001) and 4x4 Toy Challenge (providing toys for mentally handicapped people) draws from a varied background of a Bsc degree, a qualified yacht skipper, hunter, rock climber, white water canoeist, river rafter, combat shooting instructor, ex member of the NSRI, radio ham, a past lecturer at UCT and Cape Technikon. He co-presented the original Punt Radio 4x4 programme and then presented the Cape Talk 4x4 programme bi-weekly for almost a year, an entrepreneur and adventurer having traveled over 800 000km (on tar and offroad) through Southern Africa including South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia since 1980. He also has written articles for Leisure Wheels, SA 4x4 Magazine, he was the AA magazines (The Motorist) 4x4 correspondent and has written for Andrew White’s 4x4 manual and has had numerous photographs published. He has also spent time training the Getaway Magazine and SA 4x4 Magazine journalists to drive offroad.

Born in Pretoria in 1961, matriculated at Pretoria Boys High and obtained a Bsc degree from the University of Pretoria. He started offroading in 1984 with a Toyota Hilux travelling through Namiba and later doing a single vehicle mini expedition into the Central Kalahari in 1985.

After graduating he moved to Cape Town where he worked for two years before doing National Service in the SA Navy. In 1989 he started GRS Two Way Radio which he is still managing today together with GRS Trading a business dealing in GPS equipment & offroad equipment, Offroad Adventure Training (offering three courses in Offroad driving, Navigation and Mechanics), African Expedition Company (offering guided offroad safaris, expeditions, quad bike expeditions. Organiser of the African Offroad Adventure, Editor of 4x4 News Brief, Chairman of 4x4 Offroad Adventure Club, Coordinator of the 4x4 Expo’s and 4x4 Jamborees.

He was a member of the team which won the Land Rover Media Trek competition, he is a Satour registered Professional 4x4 Guide and presents a number of modules on the Satour Course.

He recently organised and led an expedition to search for the Lost City of the Kalahari, an expedition which included two aircraft and a film crew from Carte Blanche.

He is married to Gloria has two beautiful daughters, Brigitte and Aimee, who accompany him on some trips.
